Members of Keating Chambers have significant experience in construction, energy and infrastructure arbitrations throughout the Americas, Canada and the Caribbean. Cases in the region have predominately involved oil and gas and energy projects but members have also been involved in significant infrastructure projects from rail related disputes in Canada to airport expansions in the Caribbean. 
 

Many senior members of Chambers have acted as arbitrator in major cases in the Americas and Caribbean, and are familiar with the applicable legal, cultural and commercial considerations. 

 

As well as having extensive arbitration experience in the region, senior members of Chambers have also acted in several Privy Council cases, including in Trinidad and Tobago and St Lucia.

  • Representing a national oil company in US$40m international arbitration regarding the turnaround maintenance of a major regional oil refinery in the Caribbean. 
  • Advising in a multi-million-dollar arbitration on behalf of a contractor for wrongful termination of a contract for the construction of site infrastructure works at a residential site in Trinidad. 
  • Representing the defendant main contractor in an LCIA arbitration concerning the construction of a gas-fired power station in the Caribbean. 
  • Acting for a contractor in an international arbitration concerning claims arising out of the expansion of an airport in the Caribbean. 
  • Providing pre-contract advice on bonds and contractual terms for an electric turbine project in Barbados. 
  • Acting in an ICC arbitration in relation to the construction of a power station in the Bahamas. 
  • Advised a leading rolling-stock manufacturer on a US$100 million claim against Amtrak in the Washington DC courts. 
  • Represented an American designer and contractor defending a professional negligence action in the TCC in relation to a VOC abatement plant installed at a printing facility in the UK. 
  • Represented a Jordanian contractor in an arbitration against a US company arising out of the drilling of wells in Iraq. (LCIA arbitration in London, Texas law). 
  • ICC arbitration regarding disputes arising out of the construction of the Panama Canal (seat Miami). 
  • Acted for the Defendant in connection with an alleged commercial fraud concerning the purchase of an oil platform in Brazil. 
  • Acted as Counsel in connection with a US$3.5m dispute between contractor and hotel developer in Turks and Caicos. 
  • Party Nominated Arbitrator in an ICDR Arbitration under AAA Rules regarding an oil rig (seat Houston). 
  • Chairman in an ICC Arbitration regarding a tunnel collapse at a hydroelectric plant (seat Miami).
