Infrastructure
Our members have been involved with disputes arising out of some of the largest infrastructure projects both internationally and domestically. Recent cases include disputes arising out of high-profile rail projects, significant road upgrades, international airport expansions, and large-scale bridge developments. Experience in the sector also extends to private finance initiatives and fire safety disputes involving schools, hospitals and leisure centres.
Barristers act for a range of parties in these disputes including employers, contractors and specialist subcontractors. Recent instructions have come from public bodies and government-owned companies such as National Highways and Network Rail, as well as major train operators and contractors involved in international infrastructure developments. In addition to advising on technical aspects, such as design and construction related issues, they also deal with operational disputes (such as claims for revenue losses arising from sustained poor performance and restrictions of use) and regulatory matters or issues of contractual interpretation.
Utilities
Our members have represented clients in disputes arising out of both onshore and offshore desalination plants, ranging from defective design to cyclone damage, as well as those arising out of sewerage and water treatment facilities in the UK and internationally.
Barristers at Keating Chambers are also regularly instructed by electricity and gas undertakers in relation to disputes arising out of framework agreements and streetworks.
Our members are highly experienced in litigation, arbitration and also in dealing with specialist tribunals, such as OFWAT, HAUC and the Lands Tribunal.
